The New Covenant Story

New Covenant's first worship service was held on January 17, 1974 as a mission of the Episcopal Church. The congregation began with a desire to meet the needs of single parent families in the community. That year New Covenant birthed a sharing center in Casselberry, which is still supported today. New Covenant's first year was formative for its identity as a church: passionate for mission and conviced that every member has a role to play. Thought not adopted until 1997, New Covenant's vision statement summarizes the church's DNA: Every Member a Minister. Whether the Purpose Driven Life campaign, Soul in the City youth outreaches, or numerous mission trips, New Covenant is a church of ministers on mission.

The current senior pastor, Carl Buffington, arrived on April 1, 1993. Under his leadership New Covenant has continued to embrace a three streams identity: holding the sacramental, evangelical and charismatic traditions of the church in balance, giving New Covenant's its unique and refreshing worship services and ministries. Carl has also emphasised three covenantal relationships as the basis for a walk with the Lord: solitude (our relationship with God); intimacy (our relationship with each other); and compassion (our relationship with those we serve).

In 2004, with the departure of the national Episcopal Church from the historic Christian faith, the leadership of New Covenant affiliated with the Anglican Mission in America under the spiritually authority and leadership of Archbishop Emmanual Kolini of Rwanda and Bishop Alexander "Sandy" Greene. This movement allowed New Covenant to remain within the worldwide Anglican Communion and to embrace even more fully its missionary DNA. Now New Covenant looks ahead to planting daughter churches and carrying the good news of Jesus through every member's ministry!
