Family Ministry Philosophy

Why do we emphasize family ministry at New Covenant Church? Deuteronomy 6: 5-7 says "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Parents truly are God's design for passing along the faith for generations. At New Covenant, we believe parents to be the primary Christian educators in the family. We view the family as the God-ordained community for building faith in young people.

One might think this diminishes the role of New Covenant in Christian education. To the contrary! The church more than ever is called to equip families to become that place where Christ's love shines and faith is taught and nurtured. So, what are we doing to help?

Family Sunday

The first Sunday of every month is designated "Family Sunday." On this Sunday we suspend all children's classes to allow families to worship together. Children actively participate in the worship service through readings, music, and at times, teaching. We continue to have an active and exciting Children's ministry. We help create family times together through planned events and provided resources. We seek to provide whatever is needed to strengthen relationships in the home, first with God and then with each other.

Equipping and strengthening relationships in the home as well as in the church family have become a primary focus of all we do. The ultimate goal of a family powered church is that every person is known, loved, and empowered for ministry. As people connect with others in life giving relationships, tremendous possibilities for ministry, expression of gifts, and creativity emerge. Our hope is that New Covenant Church will be a place where the light of Christ so shines before men, that all will see our good deeds and praise our Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
