Missions

Acts 1:8

...but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

Local, National and International

Here at New Covenant we try to live out this model of missions by being involved at the local level, the national level and the international level.  We support organizations and individuals involved in ministry at all these levels.

We also rotate the involvement of our short-term teams through these levels.  It loosely follows a three year cycle of: local missions, national missions and international missions.  If there is a situation such as the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, we may change our schedule to meet those needs.

We will never assume we know more or understand more than the local people of a community.  As we build relationships, listen, and learn we will endeavor to come alongside the local community as they accomplish their goals.

Missions Begin at Home

It's important to say that here at New Covenant, we believe missions begins at home.  If we look at the example set by Christ, we see that He was always witnessing:

  • as he walked along the road and as he worshiped in the temple;
  • sitting by a well or sitting on a mountain;
  • as he ate with the outcasts of society or as he was accused in front of religious and government officials;
  • one-on-one in the middle of the night or during a lunch with thousands;
  • through his words and through his miracles.

He didn't ignore the physical needs of people, but rather he set an example for us by his compassionate response to them.

He has called us to be witnesses in the same way.  This is missions.
