As preparation for the celebration of Easter, Lent is a time for self-examination, repentance, prayer, fasting, self-denial and the study of God’s word. You might point out that these things can be done alone. Yes, you are right. But the spiritual practices that have shaped the observance of a Holy Lent are often experienced with greater benefit in the presence and with the prayers of others. As a wise person once said,
“The person you hear from most is you. Your voice is the one that is involved in all your decisions, all your thinking, and all your experiences. But the things you say to yourself are not always the most helpful. You often need the voice of others to say the things you most need to hear.”
Connecting with people who share Jesus in common with you can create space for transformation towards Christ-likeness even in your individual circumstances and life.
This Lent, we are offering a variety of small groups that will allow our church to present ourselves: our souls and bodies, to be a living sacrifice to God. Two pieces of advice as you get started. First, sign up with expectation that God will you meet with you as you meet with others in His name. And second, sign up with a friend. Find someone you know who may be waiting for an invitation.
