This Weekend Begins the Climb.

Lent hjesusentersjerusalemas (by grace, through fasting) loosed us from the distraction of good things that can delay us on our journey and has dislodged some things (by grace, through repentance) that so often entangle us as we walk. And so, we journey this week with Jesus, retracing the steps of his final days and hours with a clearer mind and sharper focus, waiting to see again, as for the first time, the marvel of His Holy Week.

Water for Changea00dd671-dc48-429e-b11a-9d5114ea8bb0

Now-Until April 3rd

Pastors Eric and Anna Ester are in Guatemala, sharing the freedom from bondage that only Jesus can bring. During last year’s mission trip, Pastor Eric was asked, “What is your greatest need?” With no hesitation, he answered, “We need a well. We have no water for the church.”

“Water for Change” is our way to help. If we bring to church the few dollars we would usually spend on our tea, coffee or soda during the week, we can provide water, not only for the church in Guatemala, but also for the women’s shelter. What a blessing it would be for this year’s mission team to take this gift of water to our brothers and sisters in Christ!

Prayer walk (or drive) your neighborhood using the daily devotional. As you pray for our neighbors and city, mark where you have prayed on the large map in the sanctuary. These tags will help us see the streets and homes that have been prayed for during Lent, and we believe these prayers will change our hearts towards our community even as God answers these prayers on behalf of our city. For more information, see Sheryl Curbow Shaw.

Comment Cards are now available to share what God is saying to you during your prayer walks

“We don’t have to tithe, as Christians we get to tithe!”

March 20th, 2015 by

Tithing PlateDear Members of New Covenant,

Last Sunday we played a short video of Karen James sharing a touching testimony about tithing. If you missed it, you can catch it — HERE.  And this Sunday Fr. Dave McDaniel will share on the same topic.

While there are lots of opinions on, and a lot to be said about tithing, I fear I say too little.

And Now, for the Rest of the Story…

Man in CuffsAs the handcuffs ominously clicked, little Kelly asked, “Where are they taking my daddy?” as her daddy was led from the courtroom to jail.

I don’t recall how I responded. I was probably as shocked by the immediacy of his exit as was his daughter little Kelly, his wife, Celeste, sister, Betsy, and John and Mary Jane, his mother and father. Too stunned to even produce tears. “Guilty” and away he went.
