 Sermon Main Points

Bishop Carl recounts the story of Eric Liddell, a devout Christian and Olympic athlete, and uses his example to convey a message about purpose, faith, and the Holy Spirit's role in guiding one's life. It also includes a homily for young adults being confirmed, emphasizing the importance of recognizing God's purpose, being attentive to the Holy Spirit, and developing a friendship with God.

- **Eric Liddell's Olympic Story**: Eric Liddell, an athlete who refused to run the 100-meter race on Sunday due to his Christian faith, won gold in the 400 meters and bronze in the 200 meters at the 1924 Summer Olympics in France.
- **Famous Quote from Chariots of Fire**: The movie "Chariots of Fire" attributed a famous line to Eric Liddell: "I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast, and when I run, I feel his pleasure," which resonates with many despite its dubious authenticity.
- **God's Purpose and Creation**: Bishop Carl discusses how God created each person with a purpose and emphasizes that individuals are God's workmanship, created for good works as stated in the scriptures.
- **Role of the Holy Spirit**: The Holy Spirit is highlighted as an integral part of the Christian faith, guiding and teaching believers and leading them in their spiritual journey, and into eternity.
- **Anticipation of the Holy Spirit's Presence**: Bishop Carl believes that the Holy Spirit will be present and active during the confirmation ceremony in today’s service, touching the hearts of those being prayed for.
- **Transformation of the Heart**: Bishop Carl references Ezekiel's promise of a new heart, suggesting that the Holy Spirit will transform individuals from the inside out, aligning their desires with God's will.
- **Developing Friendship with God**: He encourages developing a friendship with God through prayer, worship, and spending time in His word, as this relationship is essential for spiritual growth and experiencing the Holy Spirit's work.
