The New Covenant Preschool Story
During the early 1990's it was made aware of the need that families who wanted only half-day preschool for their children had limited options therefore, we decided to start our own.
We did the research, became DCF licensed, hired qualified staff and our doors opened to the public in the fall of 1992 with 3 classrooms and 20 children. Our focus was to be a nurturing place where children would grow, and thrive, through the care and modeling of Christian teachers.
Over the last 20 years the curriculum of the traditional preschool (learning ABC's, counting, and socialization, counting on the Kindergarten teacher to teach the more advanced skills such as letter recognition and writing ) has dramatically changed. Today's preschoolers need to have phonemic awareness, literacy and language skills, patterning, sorting, and even geometry skills in readiness prior to starting kindergarten.
Which means that the level of education that preschool teachers need to have has also dramatically increased.
All of our 3 and 4-year-old teaching staff hold AA or BA Degrees in Education or related fields.
Still our focus 20 years later is our faith commitment and the teaching of the Lord's great love. Our commitment: small class sizes (average of 8 children with 1 teacher), degreed teachers, and a strong academic curriculum based on developmental and educational standards recognized to promote readiness in key areas prior to kindergarten makes New Covenant Preschool an outstanding preschool for your child.
