Hear the sermon now, "Promises Kept" - Fr. Christopher Caudle

Fr. Christopher Caudle's sermon emphasizes that Pentecost is a promise kept—Jesus fulfilled His promise to send the Holy Spirit so that God’s people would not be left alone. Looking back to the Bible's Book of Numbers, the message shows that when Israel forgot God’s presence, they became discouraged, complained, and even began to rewrite their past as though slavery had been better than freedom. Their problem was not only hardship, but the greater spiritual danger of believing that God was absent. In response, God shared His Spirit beyond Moses and placed it on the elders, transforming their speech from grumbling and division into words that built up the community.

Fr. Christopher then connects this to Acts 2, where Pentecost becomes the full realization of what Moses longed for: that all God’s people would receive the Spirit. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured out on people of all kinds, enabling them to speak about the wonderful works of God in ways others can understand. This shows that God is not only someone who acted in the past, but One who is active in the present—saving, empowering, and renewing His people here and now.

For life today, the message reminds us that we often respond to stress, fear, and disappointment the same way Israel did—by focusing on hardship and forgetting God’s faithfulness. The Holy Spirit meets us in those moments, giving us strength, hope, and words that bring unity instead of negativity. Fr. Christopher calls believers to live as people who trust that God is still present, still working, and still saving, and to let that confidence shape the way they speak, endure challenges, and encourage others in everyday life.
