Prayer for today.

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life: raise us, who trust in him, from the death of sin to the life of righteousness, that we may seek those things which are above, where he reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Question for today.

The Italian artist Caravaggio paints here in 1601 the encounter at Emmaus between Jesus and the two disciples he met on the road. What part of Jesus’ message has recently caused you to sit up in your chair? What aspect of Jesus’ teaching of scripture do you imagine caused the burning of their hearts? Of our own?
